MAX’S DONUT SHOP

Background

If you think you need to spend more than $1.25 for a perfect donut, you’ve never been to Max’s Donut Shop. And if you’re not from Allen, Texas, like me, you might not know Max’s Donuts from any other Texas strip mall donut shop. I created this campaign to ensure that everyone passing through town knows that they can’t afford to leave without stopping by this local staple.

Conceptualize and design an expansion of the existing brand for Max’s Donut Shop and roll it out through an interactive marketing campaign and mobile app to expand the brand’s reach.

Beginning with the cherry red from Max’s Donut Shop’s storefront sign, the expanded brand guidelines incorporate a playful pink and teal inspired by classic Americana diners and sweet treats.

Character Illustrations

The expanded brand is brought to life by donut characters inspired by the vibrant local community that has supported Max’s Donut Shop since the 1980s.

Typography

Headline font inspired by old western storefronts as a nod to Max’s Donut Shop’s history in Allen, going back to its small road-side town days.

Mobile App

The Max’s Donut Shop app is an augmented reality mobile game that encourages users to search for Max’s Donut Shop characters throughout their world—like a virtual game of hide and seek.

User Journey

Users can collect characters in the app to earn coupons that can be redeemed in-store. The app allows users of all ages and locations to engage with the brand and creates a pipeline to the storefront, driving both brand awareness and revenue.
